Feature: automatic reminders
Every booking gets an email the evening before and another an hour ahead, with a link to move or cancel inside your rules. Switch on SMS for the customers who never open email. Move a booking and the reminders quietly reschedule themselves. Nobody on your team sends a single one.
The evening-before reminder catches the diary clash while there's still time to tell you; the hour-before catches the plain forget. Together they typically halve no-shows on their own, before deposits or waitlists are even considered. The trick is that they must be automatic, because the day you're too busy to send them is the day they matter.
How it works in Booksmith
The customer gets a confirmation email with an .ics invite and a secure link to manage the booking. It lands in their calendar before they've put the phone down.
Sent automatically the day before, with the same move-or-cancel link. Changes are limited to your notice window, so late cancellations can't slip through as free reschedules.
A short reminder an hour ahead: time, place, who they're seeing. SMS here is the difference for younger customers who treat email as spam.
Who leans on this most
DNA rates fall when patients are reminded properly.
Physio clinics →The 8am starter who would have forgotten is on the doorstep.
Driving instructors →Two-hour slots protected by a text the night before.
Dog groomers →Booked MOTs that actually arrive, or free the bay in time.
MOT garages →Questions we get
Email reminders are included with no limit. SMS is switched on request and runs through a Twilio account in your name, so each message costs you a few pence at cost with nothing added by us. Most businesses send the evening-before reminder by SMS and the rest by email.
They reset to the new time automatically, whether the customer moved it via their link or you moved it in the admin. Nobody gets reminded about an appointment that no longer exists.
Yes, within the notice period you set. If your policy is 24 hours, a cancel attempt at 23 hours is refused politely and told to call. Freed slots go straight to the waitlist.
The reminders carry your business name, your address and your tone of voice from setup; we write them with you when we build your system.
